Equality Act A Trojan Horse
On Friday, May 17, the U.S. House passed an expansive LGBTQ rights bill which advocates dubbed “The Equality Act.” Opponents believe the bill is a Trojan Horse.
Supporters Say:
In support of the legislation, advocates allege widespread and pervasive discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations, and in programs and activities receiving Federal financial assistance.
Yet, they also claim that large “majorities of Americans across virtually all demographic groups and geographical locations” are against discrimination of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people.
Additionally, they acknowledge that “Many employers already and continue to take proactive steps, beyond those required by some States and localities, to ensure they are fostering positive and respectful cultures of all employees. Many places of public accommodation also recognize the economic imperative to offer goods and services to as many consumers as possible.”
Opponents Say:
The real impact of this bill, unfortunately, will likely be to penalize those who refuse to affirm the new sexual norms or gender ideology.
Similar local ordinances and state laws have targeted Christian florists, bakers, photographers, wedding venue owners, videographers, web designers, calligraphers, public servants and others across the nation.
They’ve shut down leading foster and adoption agencies because of their religious beliefs.
They’ve caused confusion over biological males in female bathrooms, locker rooms, shower rooms, and overnight facilities at schools.
H.R. 5 – the so-called “Equality Act,” isn’t about equality. It’s about compelling affirmation of the new sexual norms and gender ideology.
The legislation will now go to the U.S. Senate for consideration.
