By Rep. Donna Mayfield & Sen. C.B. Embry – Two Concurrent Resolutions, one in the House and one the Senate, urge Congress to close the loophole in the Federal Communications Decency Act that gives greater immunity to sites such as “Backpage.com” that knowingly and recklessly advertise sex with trafficking victims. Note: A bill is currently before Congress.
Advocates: These are backed by 51 Attorneys General, as well as multiple law enforcement and legal groups, including the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Opponents: Thus far, the only opponents are Google.com, which has hired lobbyists in Kentucky to lobby against the resolution
Status: Both have been filed in their respective Chambers but have not moved out of Committee.
