House Bill 294: Treating Trafficking Offenders as Violent Offenders

Rep. Joni Jenkins: HB 294 updates the law to better reflect the seriousness of human trafficking or promoting human trafficking by treating those convicted of such heinous crimes as violent offenders. If convicted of those crimes, the violent offender would be required to serve no less than 85 percent of the sentence imposed before being eligible for probation or parole. In addition, a violent offender is not eligible for credit on his/her sentence for “good behavior.”
