FRANKFORT, KY – The Family Foundation applauds the Kentucky Senate and House for passing HB 4 by Rep. Jennifer Decker, legislation banning and defunding harmful and discriminatory Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. HB 4 passed the Senate this evening 32-6 and had previously passed the House 81-18. The House must now concur with the amended version of HB 4 before the legislation is sent to Governor Andy Beshear.
Statement from David Walls, Executive Director of The Family Foundation:
“DEI policies and programs at our public universities are leading to viewpoint discrimination and are undermining free speech. These harmful DEI programs that promote discriminatory concepts, such as critical theory and radical gender ideology, should be ended and defunded at every level of government.
“We appreciate the work of the General Assembly and the leadership of Rep. Jennifer Decker to pass HB 4 to protect Kentucky students, university employees, and taxpayers from these harmful and discriminatory policies. We encourage Governor Beshear to sign this important legislation into law when it arrives on his desk,” Walls concluded.
