Let Us Pray: 2024 GOP Platform Retreats on Pro-Family Priorities

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” – Proverbs 11:14

Days ago, the Republican Party’s platform committee finalized its draft of the 2024 GOP Platform, which is titled, “Make America Great Again!” The process for developing the platform was, unfortunately, forced behind closed doors by Trump and RNC leaders. This left delegates mostly in the dark about the proposed changes.

The new 16-page platform draft greatly weakened the Republican stance on family issues in comparison to the 2016 GOP platform document. There is no other way to say it, the 2024 GOP Platform has retreated on its pro-life and pro-marriage positions.

In 2020, the GOP platform document had more than 1,300 words describing its pro-life stance. Now, the 2024 GOP platform document only consists of a mere 90 words concerning its pro-life stance. Additionally, the new platform abandons the Republican commitment to a Human Life Constitutional Amendment, which would guarantee that the preborn are protected as persons under the Constitution.

Another departure from the 2016 and 2020 GOP platform document is the lack of a proper definition of marriage—one man and one woman. If the Republican Party retreats from a defense of traditional marriage, there will be no major party left defending Biblical truth on the issue.

Party platforms are not short sighted in nature. Rather, they are visionary for years to come. Party platforms are important documents as they provide guiding principles for the party to follow for the long-term and are not just advantageous tools to be used for short term political gain.

LET US PRAY…

Father, please raise up leaders in our nation who will boldly advocate and defend human life. Lord, please put individuals into places of authority who will truly uphold and protect the sanctity of marriage. Father, empower us to be faithful advocates in the political realm for You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
