United Healthcare is a major insurance group that was led until recently by Brian Thompson who served as the company’s CEO. On December 4, 2024, just outside of the hotel where he was staying in Midtown Manhattan, he was targeted and shot to death at point-blank range.
Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old from Maryland, is the suspected killer who has been arrested, and will now stand trial. This situation has captivated America, and the response by Americans is multifaceted and concerning.
Emerson College conducted a poll to find out how American voters are reacting to the murder of Thompson. The poll found that the majority of voters, 68%, believe that the actions of the killer against Thompson were unacceptable, while 17% found them acceptable.
The poll, however, revealed very concerning information about young voters. Disturbingly, the poll showed that 41%of young voters found the killer’s actions acceptable, while 40% found them unacceptable.
It is truly disheartening to see that there is a significant portion of young voters in America who do not value life. This shows that we must as believers speak clearly to our culture about the dignity, value, and worth of every human being that has been made in the image of Almighty God. The killing of innocent life is never acceptable as we are Scripturally commanded to cherish and protect life.

Father, empower us to be effective advocates for the value, worth, and dignity of human life. Lord, may our culture truly understand that we as human beings have intrinsic worth as we have been made in Your very image. Father, we pray that justice will be served in the killing of Brian Thompson. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
