“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1
On this day, twenty-two years ago, our great nation was violently and ruthlessly attacked by terrorists on our own soil. On the morning of September 11, 2001, four American aircrafts were hijacked by Al Qaeda terrorists who were ultimately successful in taking control of the planes.
The vile terrorists were on a suicide mission, where they flew two planes into the two towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Another plane was flown into the Pentagon, which is the headquarters for the U.S. Department of Defense in Arlington, Virginia.
United Airlines Flight 93 was the last plane hijacked on that somber morning. It is believed that the aim of the terrorists for this plane was to fly it into the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. The terrorists, however, underestimated the bravery and the fighting spirit of the Americans on board.
Courageous Americans on this flight learned about the attacks in mid-air and decided with great bravery to fight back which ultimately diverted the plane from reaching the Capitol Building and crashing into a rural field in Pennsylvania.
It is a sobering reality, that the attacks against our country on the morning of September 11, 2001, left close to 3,000 of our fellow Americans dead. Let us on a regular basis lift up our nation to the Lord in prayer asking for His protection on our land from those who desire to bring harm to our country.
LET US PRAY…
Father, please bring peace and comfort to those who lost loved ones on this day twenty-two years ago. Lord, please protect our homeland now and in the years to come. Father, please give our President, his Administration, and our military the wisdom and understanding they need to keep our nation safe from those who desire to bring us harm. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
