A Dark Moment for America

“And I charged your judges at that time, “Hear the cases between your brothers, and judge righteously between a man and his brother or the alien who is with him.” – Deuteronomy 1:16

Days ago, a historic moment took place that will likely reverberate throughout American history for a long time to come. For the first time in our nation’s history, a President was convicted of crimes.

Former President Donald Trump, after spending over a month in trial in a Manhattan courtroom, was convicted on 34 felony counts for supposedly falsifying business records. The waters of this situation could not be any murkier, as not only is Donald Trump a former President, but he is also the presumptive Republican nominee for the office of the President of the United States.

This is a seriously dark moment for America, with very real constitutional dangers and pitfalls that could further imperil our nation. Many see this trial as nothing more than a political prosecution by the former President’s enemies to keep him out of the Oval Office.

The entire trial has many question marks looming over it, including the Manhattan district attorney making the prosecution of Trump a campaign pledge when he ran for the office. There are also serious and legitimate concerns surrounding the judge and the entire trial itself. It is sad and very concerning that our judicial system could be weaponized in this manner, especially during the middle of a hotly-contested presidential election.

As Donald Trump vows to push ahead and let the real verdict be rendered on November 5 by the people, we need to understand the serious position we are in as a nation. Our Republic will be irreparably damaged if the judicial system is allowed to become a weapon of political warfare.

LET US PRAY…

Father, please bring unity to our bitterly divided nation. Lord, in this dark moment for America, may we look to You for guidance, direction, and healing. May our elected leaders, at every level and in every branch of government, seek true justice and judge righteously in a way that is honoring to You. Father, may Your name be lifted high throughout our land. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
