“Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.” – Psalm 127:3
Recently, Stacey Abrams who is the Democratic gubernatorial candidate in the state of Georgia made some stunning statements when she suggested on an MSNBC interview that abortion was the solution to our nation’s economic troubles. Abrams literally connected abortion with economic issues like inflation and more.
Abrams stated, “Let’s be clear… Having children is why you’re worried about your price for gas… You can’t divorce being forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy from the economic realities of having a child.” Abrams’ suggestion that killing pre-born children is the cure to economical trouble is nothing short of abhorrent and repulsive.
From a Biblical worldview, one can clearly see that Stacey Abrams’ view is completely antithetical to what the Scripture teaches. The Bible teaches that children are never to be seen as a nuisance, inconvenience, or liability; rather children are to be seen as a reward from God Himself (Psalm 127:3).
Furthermore, Abrams should have done some homework before making these ill-informed statements. The reality is that economic success in our nation greatly relies on more children being born throughout America. As William McGurn stated in the Wall Street Journal, “it’s time to reject the absurd calculus by which a country is said to get richer when a farmer’s cow gives birth to a calf but is poorer when a mother delivers a child.”

Father, thank You for the blessing and reward that children truly are. Lord, please open the eyes of those who view children as inconveniences to understand that this is a view directly opposed to Your Word. Father, may our nation never see sin, like that of abortion, as a way to improve our nation as it never will. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
