Let Us Pray: Attempted Assassination of President Trump

“May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace!” – Psalm 29:11

On Saturday evening, the unthinkable almost occurred at a Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. At 6:02 ET, President Trump took the stage to give his speech and engaged the electrified crowd as the song “God Bless the U.S.A” played.

Eight minutes later, at 6:10 ET, the sound of gunfire erupted over the crowd. The President was seen raising his right hand to his right ear right before he dropped to the ground as the Secret Service courageously and quickly shielded him from more potential gunfire. The Secret Service’s counter snipers quickly targeted and killed the would-be assassin.

President Trump rose to his feet with blood coming from his right ear and running down his cheek due to a bullet wound. The bullet was a mere millimeter away from taking President Trump’s life. In a show of great defiance in the face of fear, unrelenting courage, undaunted resilience, and formidable leadership, President Trump pumped his fist toward the crowd as they began to loudly chant “U.S.A, U.S.A, U.S.A.”

The day after the attempt, Trump said that “it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening.” Heartbreakingly, the cowardly actions of the shooter left one dead and two others severely injured. As we move forward in this important election year and beyond, the political hatred and division we have in our country must stop, and we must seek Almighty God for healing and unity.

LET US PRAY…

Father, we praise You for providentially sparing President Trump’s life from the attempted assassination. Lord, please bring comfort to the family of the person who lost his life at the rally. Father, please use this dark moment to bring unity, peace, and healing to our nation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
