Let Us Pray: Attorney General Coleman Leads Effort to Support Louisiana’s Ten Commandments Law

“Keep my commands and follow them. I am the Lord.” – Leviticus 22:31

The Louisiana state legislature, earlier this year, passed a bill that will require the Ten Commandments to be posted in all public K-12 schools and state universities. Furthermore, the law also requires a three-paragraph “context statement” to be a part of each Ten Commandments display to reveal how the Commandments have played a major role in American public education throughout history.

In June, Governor Jeff Landry signed the bill into law. Months later, however, in November, U.S. District Judge John W. deGravelles ruled that the law was “unconstitutional on its face” and blocked the law from going into effect. This case will now be heard by the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to see if the law will ultimately be able to go into effect or not.

Days ago, Kentucky’s Attorney General Russell Coleman took action to defend the Louisiana law by leading an 18-state coalition that filed a brief in support of the law before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. The coalition of attorneys general that joined Attorney General Coleman are from the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Indiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and West Virginia.

Attorney General Coleman stated, “From our founding documents to the establishment of the rule of law in the United States, the Ten Commandments’ influence on American history is undeniable.” Not only do students need to understand the indisputable reality of the Ten Commandments’ impact on American history, but it also invaluable for them to comprehend the moral truth of the Scriptures, specifically the Ten Commandments, which are the highest standards of morality, and if applied to one’s life, will lead to a flourishing life.

LET US PRAY…

Father, we praise You for the courage of the Louisiana state legislature to pass a law that requires the Ten Commandments to be posted in all public K-12 schools and state universities. Lord, we thank You for the strong leadership of Attorney General Coleman and the coalition of attorneys general who are boldly supporting the law. Father, we pray that the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit will rule in favor of the Louisiana law. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
