Called to Obedience

“Walk in obedience to all that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.” – Deuteronomy 5:33

As Christians, we are called to walk in obedience to all that the Lord has commanded. We are called to obey the Lord out of deep respect and love for Him. The Gospel of John states, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

From Genesis to Revelation one can clearly see how important obedience to the Lord truly is. There is a pattern that comes to light when looking at obedience all throughout the Scriptures, and it is this, “obey God and be blessed by God, disobey God and be void of His blessings.”

Deuteronomy 11:26-28a sums it up this way, “See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD your God.” Experiencing God’s blessings due to obedience to Him is not only needed personally but also collectively as a nation.

A theology of nations is simply boiled down to this truth if a nation obeys the commands of God’s Word, then God will bless that nation, if a nation disobeys and neglects the commands of God’s Word, then God will withhold His blessings from that nation. Practically speaking, if America desires to see the Lord once more bless our Land immensely then our country must return to obeying His Word in all ways.

LET US PRAY…
Father, help our nation to be obedient to Your commands so that we may collectively prosper and flourish. Lord, help us to love You in a way that leads to following Your commands in obedience daily. Father, please open the eyes of every governing leader in our nation to the fact that we will only experience the height of Your blessings when we are following Your ways. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
