Let Us Pray: Deadly Plane Crash Leaves Nation Mourning

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” – Matthew 5:4

On Wednesday night, the unthinkable happened when a deadly plane crash occurred that left 67 people dead. Near Washington, D.C.’s Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport an American Airlines regional jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter collided over the Potomac River leaving no survivors.

The deadly collision happened around 9:00 p.m. EST when the American Airlines jet was approaching the airport in an attempt to land. Sixty-four people were on board the American Airlines jet and three military members were on the Black Hawk helicopter.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the cause of this tragedy as it remains unclear at this time. The NTSB has stated that a preliminary report as to what caused this tragedy will take approximately 30 days and that it will take possibly over a year to get a final probable cause.

The Federal Aviation Administration has indicated, however, that the air traffic control staffing was “not normal” at the time of the crash. Families of the 67 who, unfortunately, perished in this crash, and the nation at large are mourning this tragedy. May those mourning cling to the Biblical truth that the Lord has promised to be close to those who are brokenhearted and crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

LET US PRAY…

Father, please comfort those mourning the loss of loved ones and friends due to this horrendous tragedy. Lord, please give Your peace to the first responders who have been given the very difficult task of completing a recovery mission. Father, may the investigation clearly show what led to this tragedy so that this mistake can be corrected and not happen again. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Every “Let Us Pray” devotional throughout this year’s legislative session will have the names of those in authority here in Kentucky so that we may fulfill our God-given command to pray for our governing leaders.
