“Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” – 1 Kings 18:21
Many believers in America today are similar to the people that the Prophet Elijah addressed in 1 Kings 18. They are individuals who are not firmly planted in the truth of God’s Word and waver between Biblical convictions and the culture’s opinions.
Many American Christians struggle to speak up, stand firm, and publicly promote God’s truth as they feel the weight of the world’s opinions that are directly opposed to the teachings of Scripture. The more our society vehemently attacks marriage, devalues life, and threatens Biblical morality the more it seems that believers grow quiet in our nation.
Our culture is eerily similar to the one in Elijah’s day as it was filled with pagan worship, sinful pleasures, and idolatry. Elijah’s call to the people of His day is also the same call to us believers today… do not waver and stand firm for God.
No matter the consequences that might come for unashamedly following Christ, we must follow Him and publicly pronounce His ways. May we heed the words of the Old Testament Prophet Elijah and commit to standing firm for Biblical truth in Kentucky and America until Jesus comes again.
LET US PRAY…
Father, give us the fire and courage of Elijah as we voice Your truth to the culture around us. Lord, strengthen us so that we may never waver in our proclamation of Your truth. Father, empower us to follow You with reckless abandon. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
