“For God is not a God of disorder but of peace-as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.” – 1 Corinthians 14:33
On Wednesday, the Jefferson County Public School (JCPS) system launched another school year. The first day of school for JCPS did not go smoothly and ended up erupting into immense chaos, to say the least.
The mayhem witnessed on Wednesday centered on the failed JCPS bussing system. The massive bus system has nearly 13,000 bus stops that are laid out over about 600 routes. JCPS transports around 70% of its nearly 100,000 students across the 380-square-mile county every school day.
Students waited for hours for buses to pick them up to take them to school, and the delays in getting the kids back home were even worse. Many kids were not dropped back off at home until hours past the drop-off time. According to the spokesperson for JCPS, the last students were not dropped off until 9:58 p.m.
After the severe bus delays, parents have been left extremely frustrated and concerned about the safety of their children. JCPS also had a communication breakdown that left parents in the unknown about when their child would return home.
In Jefferson County, parents do not have the complete choice to choose the school in their neighborhood for their child, which has culminated in so many students needing to be bussed each day. To address the issue, Republican legislators that represent Jefferson County penned an open letter calling on Gov. Beshear to call a special session where this very important issue can be addressed and solved.
LET US PRAY…
Father, we pray for peace for the rightly frustrated and scared parents of kids who attend JCPS. Lord, may whatever needs to take place for this issue to be resolved take place. Father, may kids in the Commonwealth be put first in the education system and not institutions. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
