Let Us Pray: Gen Z Shifts Towards More Conservative View of Marriage

“So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” – Matthew 19:6

The Times just released a landmark survey that revealed that members of Gen Z have shifted from and hold more conservative views about marriage than those of the Millennial generation that preceded them. The Times revealed, “that only a fifth of 18 to 27-year-olds believed that marriage was irrelevant.”

A third of Gen Z thought it was “better for a couple to be married before having children.” Also, according to the study, “young adults today were more in favor of marriage than young adults 20 years ago, when almost twice the proportion — 39 percent — thought marriage to be irrelevant.”

Although Gen Z has more traditional views on marriage, there continues to be a significant decline in the number of people getting married over the last thirty years among rural women. Sadly, The Washington Post has reported, “between 1988 and 2018, the proportion of rural women who were married fell from 55 percent to 33 percent.”

As believers in Christ, we must take advantage of this moment to continue promoting the beauty of biblical marriage to young Americans and Americans at large. The blessings of marriage are numerous, and for a strong America and Kentucky, we need strong and committed marriages.

LET US PRAY…

Father, we praise You for Generation Z’s views on the importance of marriage. Lord, we pray for marriage rates to go up and for Gen Z to be a generation defined by vibrant, strong, and healthy marriages. Father, we pray that our nation will collectively honor, respect, and see the beauty in the institution of marriage that You created. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Every “Let Us Pray” devotional throughout this year’s legislative session will have the names of those in authority here in Kentucky so that we may fulfill our God-given command to pray for our governing leaders.
