Let Us Pray: Gov. Beshear's Lawless Executive Order

“No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.” – 1 John 3:9

On Wednesday, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear unfortunately signed a very concerning executive order banning so-called “conversion therapy” on minors. This unlawful action by Gov. Beshear is an attack on parental authority and our precious First Amendment rights.

There have been multiple attempts in past legislative sessions here in Kentucky to pass legislation that would ban “conversion therapy,” which all have failed, including in the 2024 Kentucky General Assembly. The Family Foundation has publicly and fervently worked to stop these legislative measures as they are immensely dangerous to our religious freedom, freedom of speech, and parental rights.

This disturbing executive order attempts to put a muzzle on Christian counselors, therapists, and pastors from sharing the truth of God’s Word, especially what it teaches about human sexuality with children struggling with sexual orientation or gender identity. Denying children the Biblical truth about sexuality and human dignity is literally denying them the understanding of how to flourish to the greatest extent possible.

It must be noted, that the deeper theological issue pertaining to this executive order banning conversion therapy is that it is a direct attack on the heart of the Christian faith. The Gospel teaches one must forsake their sin, and not continue living in it (1 John 3:9). By banning “conversion therapy,” whether Gov. Beshear recognizes it or not, he is complicit in keeping minors from hearing the truth of God’s Word.

LET US PRAY…

Father, empower us to continue to advocate for parental rights, our religious freedom, and freedom of speech, in every way possible. Lord, open Gov. Beshear’s spiritual eyes to the serious error of his decision in regard to this executive order. Father, please protect our precious First Amendment rights and help us, to defend them faithfully. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
