“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” – Genesis 2:24
Days ago, the Center for Christian Virtue, which is The Family Foundation’s allied family policy council in Ohio, released the Family Structure Index. Dr. Brad Wilcox, a Professor of Sociology and Director of the National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia, is the author of the research. This national index uses new groundbreaking key statistics to measure which states have the healthiest and strongest families.
Using demographic and fertility data to establish which states are best positioned to increase the likelihood for happy and healthy children and the economic well-being of a state, the research found Utah ranked at the top and Rhode Island ranked at the bottom. The new data also revealed that our Commonwealth ranked 13th among all states in America for stable and sustainable families.
The index found that children will find greater success in life if they graduate high school, get married, and have children—in that order, which is known as the “Success Sequence.” Although the Success Sequence was developed in a sociological context, the reality is, that it aligns with God’s design for marriage and the family.
In an attempt to promote even greater family health and formation throughout Kentucky, The Family Foundation is supporting HB 294 by Rep. Shane Baker which would introduce instruction on the “Success Sequence” into public schools. Kentucky and America desperately need strong families as strong family units are absolutely necessary for a vibrant and flourishing society.
LET US PRAY…
Father, we pray that our nation and our state will hold fast to Your design for the family as it serves as a strong foundation for society. Lord, we pray that our state legislature will pass HB 294 so that the Success Sequence will be introduced into our public schools. Father, help our judges, legislators, governing authorities, and all citizens to uphold Your view of the family. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
Every “Let Us Pray” devotional throughout this year’s legislative session will have the names of those in authority here in Kentucky so that we may fulfill our God-given command to pray for our governing leaders.
