“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” – Matthew 5:4
Last month, on September 15th, Kentucky state senator, Johnnie Turner, R-Harlan, was seriously injured when a lawn mower that he was on dove into an empty swimming pool. After the accident, he was transferred and was under the care of medical professionals at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Over the last month, although Sen. Turner was in critical condition, he was considered by physicians to be stable. Furthermore, over the last few weeks, it had been reported that Sen. Turner was making some good progress
In fact, according to reports, Sen. Turner was showing signs of improving physically in his physical therapy treatments although he remained in the ICU. Unfortunately, on Tuesday evening Sen. Turner took a turn for the worse and passed away.
Sen. Turner showed great strength throughout his attempted recovery process. Senate President Robert Stivers stated, “Over the past weeks, his remarkable resolve and strength filled the Turner family—and all of us—with optimism, making this loss all the more difficult to bear.” Let us remember Sen. Turner’s family in the days ahead as the mourn the loss of their loved one. Sen. Phillip Wheeler said of Turner, “Johnnie was [a] fervent Christian, which was demonstrated by his great generosity. Simply put, Johnnie was one of the most generous people I have ever met.”
