Let Us Pray: LPGA and USGA Release New Policies that Protect Women Golfers

“He answered, ‘Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female.’” – Matthew 19:4

Recently, the Independent Women’s Forum (IWF) sent a letter to the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and the U.S. Golf Association (USGA) which was signed by more than 300 female golfers requesting the prohibition of biological men in their sport. The letter was sent after the LPGA Tour allowed Hailey Davidson, a biological male who identifies as a transgender female, to compete in its qualifying series.

Days ago, in reaction to this situation, the LPGA and the USGA released new policies outlawing men who went through some stages of puberty from competing in women’s professional golf. This is a big win for female golfers as the previous LPGA and USGA policy allowed biological males to compete against biological females if they had undergone gender reassignment surgery and met hormonal therapy requirements.

The LPGA’s new policy states, “In consulting with top experts in the fields of medicine, science, sport physiology and golf performance, we have been advised that a player’s exposure to male puberty provides physical advantages that are beneficial to golf performance compared to players who have not had such exposure. … A player’s exposure to male puberty provides physical advantages that are beneficial to golf performance compared to players who have not had such exposure.”

It must be noted, even under this new policy a biological male who takes puberty-blockers early enough in the natural maturing process and then receives female hormones and undergoes reassignment surgery can still play on the LPGA Tour. Even though the new policy could have and should have gone even further at least those who have gone through male puberty, like Davidson, will not be allowed to compete in the LPGA Tour and steal championships that rightfully should be awarded to a biological female athlete.

LET US PRAY…

Father, we praise You for the courageous stand of the Independent Women’s Forum in their defense of truth and reality. Lord, we praise You for this new policy from the LPGA and the USGA that takes the right step in protecting women golfers. Father, empower us to be strong advocates for Your truth in our culture. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
