Since 1995, Päivi Räsänen has been a member of the Finnish Parliament and she is also a Christian medical doctor. For the past four years, Räsänen has been fighting intense criminal charges and lawsuits.
In 2021, Räsänen was formally charged with “agitation against a minority group” which is under the Finnish criminal code titled, “war crimes and crimes against humanity.” So, why was Räsänen charged with this criminal conduct? Simply for sharing historic Christian beliefs on marriage and human sexuality.
Räsänen publicly stated the truth about marriage and sexual ethics from a Biblical position in a 2019 tweet, in a 2019 live radio debate, and also in a 2004 church pamphlet. For simply voicing Biblical truth about marriage and sexual ethics Räsänen was slapped with a years-long lawsuit.
Thankfully, recently, a Finnish appeals court dismissed all criminal charges against Räsänen. This is a massive win for international free speech and religious freedom. All people in all places should be able to voice Biblical truth without fear of retribution.

Father, thank You, for the display of courage that Räsänen has shown during this trying time in her life. Lord, we praise You that a Finnish appeals court correctly dismissed these ridiculous criminal charges against Räsänen. Father, may we never shy away from speaking Biblical truth no matter the consequences that could follow. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
