“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” – 1 Timothy 2:1-2
The United States House of Representatives went for a long, exhausting, and difficult twenty-two days in search of its top leader, the Speaker. During those twenty-two Speaker-less days, the U.S. House of Representatives went through four grueling failed votes with various candidates for Speaker of the House.
After over three weeks of waiting for a new Speaker to be elected, on Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives with unanimous Republican support elected Rep. Mike Johnson as the 56th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives in a 220 – 209 vote. Speaker Johnson (R) represents Louisiana’s 4th congressional district and is currently in his fourth term.
Before Speaker Johnson’s election to Congress, he worked at Alliance Defending Freedom (an ally of The Family Foundation) as senior legal counsel. He has defined his legal work this way as, “defending religious freedom, the sanctity of human life, and biblical values, including the defense of traditional marriage, and other ideals like these when they’ve been under assault.”
Elected officials who have worked closely with Speaker Johnson have described him in these ways, a “tremendous man of God,” a “strong Christian,” a “servant leader,” and a “genuinely nice guy.” America needs a Speaker of the House who possesses a Biblical worldview, and it seems that is what we have in House Speaker Mike Johnson.
LET US PRAY…
Father, please fill Speaker Mike Johnson with Your Spirit, and may he lead with courage, conviction, and with Your wisdom. Lord, may he accomplish all that You desire of him in this very important role. Father, please use Speaker Johnson in a powerful way for Your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
