“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
On January 1, 2025, just days ago, Americans all over the nation were celebrating the start of a new year. Devastatingly, what started out as a celebration in the early morning hours on Bourbon Street in New Orleans ended up being a nightmare situation.
At 3:15 a.m. on New Year’s Day, Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove his pickup truck through the Canal Street entrance and entered Bourbon Street where he recklessly plowed into the crowd. Once Jabbar crashed his truck into a construction site, he got out of his vehicle and opened fire on Bourbon Street.
Police officers quickly and courageously returned fire and killed Jabbar. Heartbreakingly, the depraved actions of Jabbar left 14 people dead and numerous others seriously injured.
This deadly situation has been confirmed as an ISIS-inspired terrorist attack. The Biden Administration, unfortunately, is warning that there may be more potential ISIS-inspired terrorists attacks on U.S. soil.
This attack, once again, reinforces the reality that America has real enemies who want to bring us harm. Let us commit to fervently praying for the safety and wellbeing of our beloved nation daily as we know that we have adversaries who desire to inflict damage on our land.
LET US PRAY…
Father, please comfort those who lost loved ones and friends in the senseless actions that took place in New Orleans on New Year’s Day morning. Lord, please protect and keep us safe as a nation from those who wish us harm. Father, empower our leaders to have Your wisdom to protect our land from terrorists. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Every “Let Us Pray” devotional throughout this year’s legislative session will have the names of those in authority here in Kentucky so that we may fulfill our God-given command to pray for our governing leaders.
