Let Us Pray: Oklahoma Schools to Teach the Bible

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” – 2 Timothy 3:16

On June 27, 2024, Oklahoma’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Ryan Walters, directed all public school districts in the state to start teaching the importance of the Bible and the Ten Commandments. Walters sent a letter to every school district in the Sooner State ordering them to incorporate the Bible into the curriculum for fifth through twelfth grades.

From a historical perspective, the Bible and the founding of our nation are inseparable, which is one of the major reasons that Superintendent Walters announced this move. Walters said, “The Bible is a necessary historical document to teach our kids about the history of this country, to have a complete understanding of Western Civilization, to have an understanding of the basis of our legal system, and it’s frankly … one of the most foundational documents used for the Constitution and the birth of our country.”

Furthermore, this decision is a great move because students who are taught the moral truth of the Scriptures, and specifically the Ten Commandments, are learning the highest standards of morality and how to live a fruitful life.

The teachings of the Bible provided the foundation for the rise of Western civilization. The reality is Biblical principles are not only the cornerstone for the past success of our nation but are also vitally important for its future success. What a blessing it would be for our nation if every student throughout the United States grasped that truth!

LET US PRAY…

Father, thank You for the courage of Superintendent Walters and for his desire to promote the teachings of the Bible in Oklahoma schools. Lord, we pray that many more states will follow the lead of Oklahoma in this regard. Father, help our nation as a whole to understand that if we desire to see Your blessings on our land it means as a society we must honor and abide by Your truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
