Let Us Pray

Let Us Pray: Parental Rights Challenged at SCOTUS

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” – Ephesians 6:4

In 2023, the Montgomery County, Maryland Board of Education took away parental notice and opt-outs for children as young as three concerning storybooks that push a radical LGBTQ agenda. These storybooks that are being forced on young students celebrate gender transitioning, pride parades, and pronoun preferences.

Soon thereafter, a courageous and diverse coalition of Christian, Jewish, and Muslim parents came together and challenged the ridiculous ban on elementary school opt-outs in federal court. Despite the religious differences between these parents, they know these storybooks are age-inappropriate, emotionally and mentally harmful, and inconsistent with their religious convictions.

Unfortunately, a lower court ruled against the parents’ challenge and upheld the opt-out ban. The coalition of parents then appealed to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals but were once again denied, with one judge dissenting.

Finally, last year, the parents asked the U.S. Supreme Court to reinstate their right to notice and opt-outs for their kids from these storybooks so that they can faithfully raise their children in accordance with the teachings of their faith. Praise the Lord, the High Court recently announced that it will hear this case, which will likely take place later this Spring.

Eric Baxter who is the vice president and senior counsel at Becket, which is representing the coalition of parents in this case said it best when he stated, “Cramming down controversial gender ideology on three-year-olds without their parents’ permission is an affront to our nation’s traditions, parental rights, and basic human decency.”

LET US PRAY…

Father, we praise You for the courage of these parents who have come together to protect their children, and their mandate from You to raise their children in Your truth. Lord, we are thankful that the Supreme Court has agreed to hear this exceedingly important case. Father, may each member of the Supreme Court rule rightly in this case. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
