Last week, the pro-life Hyde Amendment was saved in the U.S. Senate.
The Hyde Amendment bars federal funds in Medicaid and other government programs from paying for abortions. Established as a bipartisan policy, it has been renewed every year since 1976.
A similar policy, the Weldon Amendment, has prohibited government discrimination against pro-life health care providers and insurance plans since 2004.
Both were in danger amid a push to abolish them, but they appear to be preserved. By a vote of 50-49, U.S. Senators affirmed the pro-life policies.
