Let Us Pray: SCOTUS Takes Up Challenge to Age Verification Law

“Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality.” – Galatians 5:19

Weeks ago, HB 278 went into effect here in the Commonwealth which now offers protections for children online by requiring meaningful age verification for pornographic websites. In Kentucky, the law specifically requires any website that knowingly publishes or distributes material that is harmful to minors to verify that the viewers are over the age of 18.

Praise be to God, nineteen other states have also passed similar legislative measures that now require age verification to access pornographic websites. Although HB 278 in Kentucky has not been legally challenged, other similar state laws are currently being challenged in the courts.

Last year, due to a lawsuit against Texas’ version of the law, a federal judge halted the law’s age verification requirement. In March, however, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed that judge’s ruling and reimplemented the law’s age verification requirement.

Now, the U.S. Supreme Court recently announced that it has agreed to hear an appeal from the porn industry to strike down age verification laws of this kind. This is an extremely important case as the Supreme Court’s decision on this case will likely have an impact here in the Commonwealth and across the nation.

LET US PRAY…

Father, please empower each and every justice on the U.S. Supreme Court to rule righteously in Your eyes on this case. Lord, we praise You that HB 278 is in effect in Kentucky right now protecting minors from the dangers of online pornography. Father, may many more states pass legislation to protect kids from the harms of online pornography. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
