“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” – Matthew 5:13
As Christians, God has not called us to sit on the sidelines silently as immorality and wickedness run rampant throughout our culture. The Bible nowhere tells us as believers to be passive and allow our state and nation to be governed in ways of wickedness as we helplessly observe.
Our Lord Himself, Jesus Christ, calls each and every believer to be an instrument for His use to influence our world for righteousness. To reveal this truth to us, that we are to influence the world for Biblical truth, Jesus uniquely calls believers “salt.”
When salt is applied to meat, the salt brings out and enhances the wonderful flavor of the meat. As we are in the place and culture in which Jesus has placed us, here in Kentucky, we are to bring about positive change for the Lord. As salt, we are to enhance Kentucky and America by standing strong for Biblical truth and values.
Too many Christians today refuse to get involved in trying to influence their community, state, or nation for a variety of reasons. Our Lord gives a stern warning to those who lose their saltiness. He states, “But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” Let us resolve today, to stay salty and make a difference for God in our culture especially during this 2022 legislative session.
LET US PRAY . . .
Father, empower us to be the salt You have called us to be during this 2022 General Assembly. Help us, Lord, to influence Kentucky and America for Your truth and righteousness. May we be Your instruments to lead this nation back to the Biblical foundation on which it was founded. Lord, may we be found faithful in Your sight always standing for Your truth no matter the cost. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
