Let Us Pray: Study Finds “Gender-Affirming” Surgeries Increase Mental Health Issues

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” – 2 Timothy 1:7

Recently, researchers at the University of Texas released a new study that was published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine that examined the mental health effects of those who have had “gender-affirming” surgeries. Specifically, the study evaluates the mental health status of those who have had transgender surgeries two years after the operations.

The research examined 107,583 patients who had gender dysphoria, some who underwent transgender surgery, and some who did not. The results were clear that those who underwent “gender-affirming” surgeries experienced significantly worse mental health conditions and experienced much higher rates of depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and substance-use disorders.

For example, men who had transgender surgeries had depression rates of 25% and men who have not had the surgeries had depression rates of 11.5%. Men who had transgender surgeries had anxiety rates of 12.8% compared to 2.6% who had not had the surgeries.

The study found similar results with women as well. Those who have had transgender surgeries had depression rates of 22.9% compared to 14.6% who have not had transgender surgeries. Women who underwent transgender surgeries have anxiety rates of 10.5% compared to 7.1% who have not undergone surgery.

This study reveals that “gender-affirming” surgery and other procedures do not help bring healing to those who are hurting and confused. True healing for those who are experiencing gender dysphoria only comes when they find and embrace the truth that they have been created perfectly in the image of Almighty God for a wonderful plan and purpose.

LET US PRAY…

Father, may those suffering from gender dysphoria come to the truth and realization that fighting against Your perfect plan for our lives, which includes our biological sex, will only lead to pain. Lord, we pray for an end to “gender-affirming” surgeries across America. Father, empower us to be faithful and effective advocates for Your created order. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Every “Let Us Pray” devotional throughout this year’s legislative session will have the names of those in authority here in Kentucky so that we may fulfill our God-given command to pray for our governing leaders.
