Let Us Pray: The Current Landscape of Evangelicalism in America

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16

Dr. George Barna, the keynote speaker of our upcoming Kentucky Family Forum, is the Director of Research at the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University where he currently released new data entitled, “Limitations of Christian Evangelicalism in American Society.” The new research reveals concerning and startling findings on the current landscape of evangelicalism in America.

It is no surprise that our American culture is in decline, and the study bluntly stated about our society that “the depth of the depravity is shocking.” The research revealed that the reason for this was “indisputable,” and was “a direct result of the spiritual collapse of Christianity in the nation”- specifically concerning the transformation of evangelicalism in America over the last 30 years.

Sadly, the data shows that most evangelicals do not possess a Biblical worldview, only one-third actually do. Furthermore, the research reveals that there are much fewer evangelicals in the nation than some would suggest, and they tend to “vote in far fewer numbers than expected.”

Dr. Barna summarized the concerning landscape of evangelicalism in America this way: “The data strongly suggests that evangelicals are more likely to be shaped by the culture around them than they are to influence or evangelize it.” We must step up to the plate, and as American believers fulfill our God-given mandate to influence our society for Christ or the depravity of our culture will only continue to accelerate.

A society that moves away from the truth of God never flourishes, but only falls deeper and deeper into the abyss of depravity and demise. We must understand the urgency of letting our light shine in our culture and the need to evangelize it with fervency.

LET US PRAY…

Father, please empower American believers all throughout our nation to rise up and influence our country for Your truth. Lord, may Your Church be strong and courageous and never shrink back from teaching Your truth throughout our society. Father, help all believers in our nation to understand the critical moment we are in. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
