Let Us Pray: The Experiment to Legalize Marijuana has been Catastrophic

“They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.” – 2 Peter 2:19

For years now, marijuana advocates have tried to rush a social experiment to legalize marijuana use, touting that the substance would measurably improve people’s lives. However, the reality could not be further from that belief, as study after study has proven that the experiment to legalize marijuana has been catastrophic.

The promises of the health benefits that marijuana use was supposed to provide have been proven to be a lie, and the negative consequences associated with marijuana use are far worse than what was anticipated. A multitude of studies has shown that marijuana use is wreaking havoc on people’s mental health.

For example, studies have revealed that there is a plain and direct link between marijuana use and psychosis. CBS News reported, “People who smoked marijuana on a daily basis were three times more likely to be diagnosed with psychosis compared with people who never used the drug. For those who used high-potency marijuana daily, the risk jumped to nearly five times.”

According to the National Academy of Medicine, marijuana use increases the risk of schizophrenia. Furthermore, sadly, there is a troubling link between marijuana use and teen suicide. Colorado state statistics reported that 42% of teens who had committed suicide had marijuana in their system, a rate of nearly double that of alcohol.

The experiment to legalize marijuana in the name of “personal freedom,” has been completely disastrous, and in reality, leads to anything but freedom. Freedom allows one to flourish in life, and yet, when evaluating the devastating effects of marijuana use like social degradation, the destruction of families, the destruction of one’s mental health, the devastating addictive nature of the drug, and more, it is clear that marijuana use is ultimately a path for bondage and destruction.

LET US PRAY…

Father, may we collectively as a nation seek to be people who fulfill our Biblical command to be self-controlled and sober-minded as that leads to a fruitful life. Lord, may our nation understand that whatever substance one becomes under the influence of, that substance has enslaved one’s mind and that is not freedom. Father, open the eyes of every American to see the harm associated with marijuana use. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
