In recent weeks, interesting news has broken out surrounding the women’s volleyball team at San Jose State University. There have been four teams forfeit matches against the women’s volleyball team at San Jose State. These teams include Boise State, Southern Utah, Wyoming, and Utah State.
Although none of the schools that have forfeited games against San Jose State have officially stated why they canceled their games, it is clearly linked to the NCAA’s failure to protect women’s sports. Teams are likely canceling matches with San Jose State because of a lawsuit that player Brooke Slusser from San Jose State has joined claiming that her teammate, Blaire Fleming, told her that she was a biological male who identifies as a transgender female.
Booke Slusser joined a lawsuit that is being led by former Kentucky swimmer, Riley Gaines, that was filed earlier this year against the NCAA. The purpose of the suit is to force the NCAA to change and correct its detrimental transgender policies that have wreaked havoc on women’s sports. Slusser in the lawsuit stated that Fleming can spike the ball at speeds upward of 80 mph and that during practice she and her teammates fear for their safety.
Earlier this year, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), which is the other governing body for collegiate sports, put forward new commonsense policies that ensure fairness in women’s sports. These policies of the NAIA do not allow biological men to compete in women’s sports. It is beyond time for the NCAA to follow suit and enact policies that protect a fair and level playing field for female athletes.

Father, we praise You for the courage and strength of Brooke Slusser to speak up and stand for what is right. Lord, we pray that the NCAA will step up and take action just as the NAIA did to protect women’s sports. Father, we pray that You will bless the lawsuit against the NCAA that is being led by Riley Gaines to correct the faulty transgender policies of the NCAA. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
