“Marriage should be honored by all…” – Hebrews 13:4a
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has made it abundantly clear that the U.S. Senate will vote on the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act” very soon, possibly as soon as next week. This radical piece of legislation has already been favorably voted on by the U.S. House of Representatives back in July, sadly, with a considerable amount of support from Republicans.
This bill claims to codify the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court decision of Obergefell v. Hodges and ensure same-sex couples the right to “marry.” This piece of legislation, however, does more than just codify Obergefell v. Hodges, it threatens our right to religious liberty and legislatively secures policies that hurt children.
The (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act threatens religious liberty because it opens an avenue for organizations of faith to legally be targeted for simply holding to a Biblical view of marriage. Also, this bill hurts children as some needy children will be placed in fatherless or motherless homes due to couples being of the same sex.
The U.S. Senate must protect our precious right to religious liberty and vote down this dangerous bill.
LET US PRAY…
Father, please empower the U.S. Senate to show courage and vote down the so-called Respect for Marriage Act. Lord, help our nation to honor You by honoring Your creation and definition of marriage. Father, help us to never cave to societal pressure and to always stand strong for Your truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
