“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.” – Ephesians 4:15
We live in a culture that in many ways is seemingly running in the opposite direction from what the Scriptures teach. This is seen all throughout our culture, for example, the truth about marriage, gender, human sexuality, and more that is found in the Scriptures is rejected and replaced by the subjective feelings and opinions of the world.
Even in a culture where there is heightened hostility toward Biblical convictions, our mandate from the Lord remains unchanged. We are called to faithfully, honorably, and courageously “speak the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15).
The Scripture teaches that we do not simply proclaim the truth of God to our culture just for the sake of voicing truth. We are compelled to speak God’s truth to our society out of our deep desire to follow the Lord’s command to love our neighbor (Mark 12:30-31).
Our Biblical command to love our neighbor compels us to proclaim the truth of God’s Word to our society so that hopefully our culture will follow the ways of God which is the only way to reach the height of human flourishment. If we truly love our neighbor, that means wanting the very best for them, which can only come by following the ways of the Lord. We must proclaim the truth, to fulfill our command to love our neighbor.
LET US PRAY…
Father, empower us to be Your voice in our state and nation to speak Your truth in love. Lord, may Your church never be characterized by silence or passivity. Father, may we love our neighbor by proclaiming the truth of Your Word to our world. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
