LEXINGTON, KY – Today, President Trump signed an executive order protecting female athletes from physical harm and unfair competition by prohibiting males from joining teams specifically designated for females.
In recent years, numerous examples of men competing in women’s sports have gained public attention throughout the nation, including former University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines, who experienced firsthand that when males are allowed to compete in girls’ sports, they take championships, recognition, and opportunities that belong to female athletes.
These examples provide clear and convincing evidence that efforts to allow men pretending to be women the opportunity to participate in female sports is immoral and dangerous. On this issue, Kentucky has helped to lead the way with the passage of the Save Women’s Sports Act, SB 83.
The Family Foundation’s executive director David Walls praised the executive order, saying, “We are thankful to President Trump for signing this important executive order protecting female athletes. Sound reason and basic biology make it clear that men have no place in women’s sports. This order is an important victory for women and girls across the nation and another important step toward dismantling the radical gender ideology harming our culture.”
“With the continuation of the 2025 Regular Session, we strongly encourage the General Assembly to keep Kentucky at the forefront of these issues by cementing President Trump’s executive orders combating woke gender ideology into state law,” Walls concluded.
In signing the order, President Trump remarked, “The war on women’s sports is over.” We agree, and we rejoice in the tremendous victory.
The Family Foundation helped lead the effort to pass the Save Women’s Sports Act (SB 83) in Kentucky during the 2022 General Assembly. At least 25 states have now passed Save Women’s Sports laws in the last several years.
