This week marked the start of Kentucky’s 2023 legislative session in Frankfort. Because this is an odd year, the Commonwealth has a “short session” which consists of 30 days in which legislators convene at the Kentucky State Capitol (as opposed to the 60 days of the longer even-year sessions). After this week, legislators break until February 7, which kicks off Part II of the short session. The 2023 session concludes on March 30.
The Family Foundation’s policy team was in Frankfort meeting with multiple legislators and has already begun working to ensure that parental rights and other important issues are addressed this year. Be sure to watch our video update from the Capitol with our Executive Director David Walls and Sr. Policy Advisor Michael Johnson. David and Michael discuss Governor Andy Beshear’s troubling State of the Commonwealth address where he named the legalization of sports betting and medical marijuana as two of his top priorities.
